Welcome

There is a crisis in manhood that afflicts many of our lower income communities.  Kids are growing up without fathers. Being a man is often defined by the number of fights you’ve been in, number of women you’ve been with, size of car you drive, or time you’ve spent behind bars. This is the picture of manhood so many young men are given, and we aim to paint a new picture. We want to encourage and equip young men to be more. We seek to do this through a four fold vision of mentoring, job experience, career exposure, and manhood/life-skills training. Take some time to explore the site, read the stories, check out the pictures, and join us in finding ways to encourage all young men to be more.

Make a Goal, not a Resolution

I saw something the other day…I think it was on a Facebook status. It went something like this, “Instead of making resolutions this year, make goals.” I like that. Instead of choosing some abstract resolution, “I’m going to exercise more,” … Continue reading

Thank you to all those who are supporting and encouraging the B. Moore Project. We’d love to see your organizations name here too. Contact us about how we can partner.

About Us

Mission Statement

The B. Moore Project exists to encourage and equip young men to be more.

Why We Exist

After another shooting and death of a 17 year old young man in our neighborhood, we could no longer stand by and do nothing. If we aren’t doing anything to stop the violence, we remain just as culpable. Through prayer and soul-searching the project was born, believing that someone needs to show these young men they can be more…and that someone is us.

Vision

The vision to fulfill this mission is four-fold; through mentoring, life-skills training, job experience, and career exposure experiences. The B. Moore Project is designed to give these young men an opportunity to dream, to dream of being more than their surroundings often tell them they can be. We want these young men to believe, as we do, that they can be more. The first stage of this vision has been to focus on the mentoring and life skills training piece. The second stage will include helping the students get job experience and creating career exposure experiences.

Our Team

Herman | Co-Founder

Married to Nike Greene for 17 years, they have 4 children; Asia, Natasha, Josiah, and Taylor. Herman moved to Portland by way of Buffalo, NY and Tennessee. He has been in Portland for 17 years and all of them in N/NE Portland. His life was changed shortly after arriving in Portland when God began to transform him into a disciple of Jesus. Herman is a leader in his community and will quickly inspire anyone he meets. You can find Herman relaxing on his back deck or serving out at Roosevelt High School throughout the week; as well as causing as many people to laugh as possible at any given time.

Nick | Co-Founder

Husband to Mandy. Father to Dominick, Eli, and Mia. He was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA and has lived in Boston, New York City, and Kansas City before coming to Portland. His time in Kansas City working with the Kansas City Urban Youth Center was part of the catalyst that fueled his passion to see manhood be re-imagined within the Urban context. Some of his other passions include the Pittsburgh Steelers, cooking on a grill, any grill, at any time; and finding ways to be the presence of the kingdom of God where ever he is.
